Our Story

Our Story

Hi, I’m Mitali - the founder, craft designer, photographer, marketing department, creative director, and the entire brain behind this brand (yes… all in one person 😄). I started this journey in February 2020 in Jaipur, a city that quietly teaches you to fall in love with art, colour, flowers, and stories shaped by human hands. I studied craft design at IICD, Jaipur, where hands-on learning with different crafts across India made me fall deeply in love with our craft culture.

This brand grew from that love - and from my deep respect for Indian crafts and the artisans who keep them alive. I began in 2020, right in the middle of COVID, working on small-scale artworks. When the first pieces came back from our artisans, I felt the surface quality wasn’t quite where I wanted it to be. I realised that Thikri was traditionally used on large architectural surfaces - like Amber Palace and heritage hotels  and translating that craft into smaller, intimate pieces needed a different kind of care.

I began training the artisans to focus on intricate details - cleaner cuts, better proportions, and designs that felt balanced rather than heavy. The initial stock lacked the finesse I had imagined, so we worked together patiently, keeping in mind the limitations of the raw material while slowly refining the technique.

Alongside this, I started experimenting myself - trying different paints, finishes, and methods, learning through trial and error to elevate every piece. It became a personal journey to understand what this craft truly needed in a modern context.

Once I achieved the quality I envisioned, I began doing the final finishing by hand for each order. One day, while painting was happening at home, I spoke with our house painter and asked if he would like to try this craft. After some training, he started bringing his wife to the studio - she learned the technique too, and today they both work with us. It still feels like a dream to be able to support a family through this work.

In July 2024, I got married and moved to Sydney, Australia. Since then, I’ve been running the brand across time zones not easy at all (sleep is now a suggestion), but completely worth it. None of this would be possible without my incredible team of artisans in India who pour their heart and skill into every piece we create. I’m endlessly grateful to them.

I truly love this craft, and my goal is simple to keep creating beautiful, meaningful pieces that carry heritage, warmth, and soul into modern homes
